How to Brew Coffee with an AeroPress
The AeroPress is a versatile and easy-to-use method that allows you to quickly prepare high-quality coffee. At Cafeto de Villa, we offer you a step-by-step guide to get the most out of your AeroPress and enjoy a delicious cup of coffee.
Necessary Materials
Before you begin, make sure you have the following:
- An AeroPress and its paper filters
- Specialty coffee from Cafeto de Villa, medium-fine ground (a little coarser than espresso)
- A scale to measure coffee and water
- A kettle of water
- Filtered water
- A stirrer or spoon
- A cup or jug to collect the coffee
Steps to Prepare Coffee with an AeroPress
1. Prepare the Equipment
Place a paper filter in the lid of the AeroPress and rinse it with hot water to remove any papery taste and heat up the equipment. Discard the rinse water.
2. Measure and Grind the Coffee
The recommended ratio is 1 gram of coffee for every 15 grams of water. For a 240 ml cup of coffee, use 16 grams of coffee. Grind the beans just before brewing for the best flavor.
3. Heat the water
Heat filtered water to a temperature of 85-96°C. If you don't have a thermometer, allow the water to boil and then wait about 30 seconds before using.
4. Set up the AeroPress
There are two popular methods for using the AeroPress: the traditional method and the inverted method.
Traditional Method:
- Place the AeroPress over your mug or carafe.
- Add the ground coffee into the AeroPress chamber.
Inverted Method:
- Turn the AeroPress upside down, with the plunger on the bottom and the open chamber facing up.
- Add the ground coffee into the chamber.
5. Add the Water
Pour the hot water over the ground coffee until the chamber is full, making sure to wet all the coffee evenly. The amount of water can vary according to your preference, but generally around 240 ml is used.
6. Shake and Wait
Use a stirrer or spoon to stir the coffee and water for about 10 seconds. This helps ensure an even extraction. Then, let the coffee sit for about 30 seconds to 1 minute.
7. Place the Filter and Assemble
If you're using the traditional method, simply place the lid with the filter into the chamber. If you're using the inverted method, place the lid with the filter on, flip the AeroPress over, and carefully place it over your mug or carafe.
8. Press
Apply slow, steady pressure to the plunger to extract the coffee. The pressing process should take about 20-30 seconds. If you feel too much resistance, try grinding the coffee a little coarser next time.
9. Serve and Enjoy
Remove the AeroPress from the cup or carafe and give the brewed coffee a little swirl to blend the flavors before serving. Enjoy your freshly brewed coffee!
Additional Tips
- Experiment with the water to coffee ratio : Adjust the amount of coffee and water to your taste preferences.
- Try different steeping times : Experiment with different wait times before pressing the plunger to find your preferred flavor.
- Quick Cleanup : The AeroPress is easy to clean. Simply unscrew the lid and push out the used coffee puck, then rinse all parts.
